RCB knocks out MI in IPL 2021 opener

The season 14 of the IPL T-20 had a kick start with the Royal Challengers Bangalore defeating Mumbai Indian by 2 wickets. with a scathing attack at the historic MA Chidambaram Stadium which had a captivating season opener .The clinching victory key highlight was Harshal Patel’s Fifer helped RCB beat MI. The toss was won by Virat and he elected to bowl first at chepauk with Quinton De Kock still in quarantine, Lynn opened with Rohit.

Rohit was run out on 19 But Suryakumar and Lynn’s 44 ball 70 run partnership helped get Mumbai Indian to 86/1 in 10 overs. But after their wicket fell Mumbai Indians were reduced to 105/3 in 12.5 overs. Harshal Patel made a cutting edge in the season opener by taking the wicket spree taking the wickets of Ishan, Hardik, Pollard, Krunal and Jensen. Virat and Maxwell’s 52-run partnership was the team’s highest of the innings.RCB struggled at 126/6 in 17 overs needing 34 from 18 balls. Ab De Villiers though ensured 7 runs were off the last 6 balls.

Chasing a target of 160 runs, RCB won the match on the final ball of the match, scoring 160 for eight in 20 overs. Despite losing an early wicket, opener Virat Kohli gave RCB a good start, scoring 33 runs off 29 balls. Before losing his wicket, the skipper also made a short and beneficial partnership with new acquisition Glenn Maxwell, who slammed 39 off 28 balls. Meanwhile, AB de Villiers also made a match-winning contribution, hitting 48 runs in 27 balls. Despite losing his wicket in the penultimate over, the South African cricketer’s knock was enough to put the win on RCB’s plate, with Harshal Patel scoring the winning run on the last of their inning.

Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen were in good form for Mumbai Indians, taking two wickets apiece. However, Trent Boult and Krunal Pandya registered a dismissal each. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians scored 159 for nine in 20 overs, setting a 160-run target for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Opener Chris Lynn was in good form, slamming 49 off 35 balls. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav (31) and Ishan Kishan (28) also made decent contributions to their side’s total. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson and Washington Sundar registered a dismissal each.
