Delhi Capitals have made a stunning debut in season 14 with a consolidated unbeatable balling department outshining in the IPL T20 2021 at Wankhade Stadium,Mumbai by winning the game with a 7 wicket win over Chennai Super Kings. Surprisingly, yet not so very surprisingly the overpowering innings played by Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan scored half-centuries to help Delhi Capitals defeat Chennai Super Kings which was truly an all time high adrenalin booster right at the beginning of the tournament.
While chasing a decent target of 189, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shah gave DC a dream start. They put up 138 run for the opening stand and never let CSK get hold of the match. Chennai Super King’s poor bowling and abysmal bowling added to their woes. Other than Suresh Raina scoring a 50, there was no take way from the match for CSK. As for Delhi Capital, almost everything clicked for them. This was the first match for Rishabh Pant as captain of the side and his team gave him a thumping start.
Earlier, Sam Curran hammered 34 off 15 balls at the back-end of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) innings, including thrashing his older brother Tom for 16 runs in three balls in the 19th over, to help the men in yellow reach 188/7 in their 20 overs against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Delhi Capitals wrapped up the entire game with eight balls to spare. Delhi Capital reached 190 for three in 18.4 overs, with standby captain Rishabh Pant hitting the winning four. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi Capital a dominant start during the chase, scoring half-centuries respectively. Shaw slammed 72 off 38 balls, packed with nine fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Dhawan scored 85 in 54 balls, consisting of 10 fours and two sixes. The duo’s dominant display set up the win for Delhi Capital, with Rishab Pant and Shimron Hetmyer sealing the win in the 19th over.
Despite conceding 53 runs in 3.4 overs, Shardul Thakur took two wickets for Chennai Super Kings. Nevertheless, Dwayne Bravo registered a dismissal. Earlier, Chennai Super King wrapped up their innings at 188 for seven after 20 overs. Suresh Raina was the top-scorer for Chennai Super Kings, having registered a half-century. He slammed 54 off 36 balls, packed with three fours and four sixes.
Moeen Ali also made a quickfire contribution, scoring 36 off 24 deliveries. Despite MS Dhoni losing his wicket in a two-ball duck, Sam Curran (34) and Ravindra Jadeja (26) gave a good finish to their innings. Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan were in good form for Delhi Capital, taking two wickets each. However, R Ashwin and Tom Curran registered a dismissal each.
Rishab Pant states : Actually, it was special for me captaining in IPL and walking out for toss with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. I have learnt from him and he’s my go-to man.
Pant also lauded the opening duo of Dhawan and Shaw.
